Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly. But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner. Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words. Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you. Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you. Grace be with you all. Amen.
Humility
Matthew 18:4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Psalm 10:17 Lord, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilst cause thine ear to hear...

Matthew 23:12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and whosoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.


Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy, I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Proverbs 16:19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Ezekiel 36:16-28 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their way was before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman. My prayer for us:

Oh God who art The Most High, it is Thee Who hast made us, Thou art He Who created the universe. It is Thine. It and all who sojourn in it. We thank Thee, Oh God, for Thy creation and the provision and sustenance which Thou hast provided us. We are blessed to be Thy creation. Blessed by this, Thy creation in which we do live and sustain our lives, our families, our vocations, our rest and our entertainments. How wonderfully Thou hast made us, as well as all that we have and are. How beautiful and wondrous must be the environs of Thy Spirit. How we long to be with Thee in that most splendrous of palaces. For surely though we are wondrously made, we have fallen into disrepair and corruption and however we might try there is no leaving our state for Thine, except Thou dost render help. Help us Oh God! Help us to be attentive to Thy still small voice and the moving of Thy Holy Spirit. Accept us Father, as we turn and return unto Thee. Heal us and make us whole, that the freedom and health and life which Thou hast bestowed upon us might be spread throughout this Thy universe, to those within our sphere of influence, whether we think they worthy or deserving, who might be hurting or lost, knowingly or not, that they might be made aware of Thy great love for them and the grace with which Thou dost offer Thy Great Love, and thereby become partakers of the forgiveness and wellness which Thou dost intend for each one of us, Thy creation. Thank You Father for Thy compassionate help, help us to be help to our fellow sojourners here, that they might become help to others in their turn, as at Thy request, and those to become helpers yet again. Proverbs 18:1-15 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom. A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself. God has given us all we need, the thing we most desire, and purposefulness. What more can we want? How can we be offended? What plan could overshadow? We need not worry about our basic wants, we are accptable to God, He then has a job for us to do. So let us thankfully and humbly be about the realization of His Eternal Fellowship.

God Promises to Us on Faith

We have looked at God’s Promise of Eternal Life, and begin to understand that it is ours from God if we will just have faith. But what is God’s Promise concerning faith? And furthermore, What is Faith? Hebrews 11 would seem to be the focal passage here, but there are other passages which round out and fill in the picture of what faith looks like, sounds like, acts like. I was unable to refrain from adding some of the surrounding scritpures to the core points the editors had presented. And I feel that they, the editors did a good job of being concise, but it seemed to me that we could benefit in understanding how and from whence emanated those core points that we might better apply them to our own lives. So to the first question we read...

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

James 1:5-6 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

Colossians 2:6-7 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Galatians 3:24-29 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. Galatians 2:15-21 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

And these all, having obtained a good report through Faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

In finishing the lesson I see that God so loves us that He allows us the opportunity to build a commonality with those to whom He wants His message to be given, that we might have the joy and peace of knowing that we had some even little something to do with a lost soul’s salvation. This is where faith is paramount: in the assimilation of our ready hard times into ‘the joy that is set before us.’
